VCOM-Virginia students make blankets for children in need

On September 7, 2018, first-and second-year students at SWAGƵgot together for a service project called Laborers for Linus. The students made fleece-tie blankets for local children in foster care and hospitals. Project Linus is a non-profit whose mission is to “provide love, a sense of security, worth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteers.”

One-hundred seventeen students made 70 blankets that were donated to the organization. The Class of 2021 sponsored the event. Snacks for volunteers and fabric to make the blankets was purchased with funding from a grant. Many students bought their own fleece and more than 40 skeins of yarn was collected to donate.

“We had a student at the event state that this was the most fun he has had at VCOM. This resonated with me because this event was intended to bring joy to as many children in need as possible, but the event brought just as much joy to us,” said Julianna Procaccini, President of the VCOM-Virginia Class of 2021.
