Timothy J. Kowalski, DO, D.FACN, Vice Provost for Professional and Public Affairs for the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and Former Dean of the VCOM-Carolinas Campus, was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Trustees for the (AOA) during its on July 18.
An AOA board-certified psychiatrist and child psychiatrist, Dr. Kowalski served as the Second Vice President for the American Osteopathic Association from 2019-2020.

With Dr. Kowalski’s extensive experience in clinical psychiatry, academic medicine, and military medicine, I cannot think of a better person to promote advancements in the field of osteopathic medicine. I am confident that he will contribute significantly to the mission of the AOA as a member of the board of trustees.”

Following his honorable discharge in 1993 from the US Army, Dr. Kowalski was employed by the rising to the position of Medical Director of the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, South Carolina.
A long-time resident of South Carolina, Dr. Kowalski serves as an advocate to support health care in his state. He is past president of the and the , where he serves as a member of the board’s Internal Review Committee. He also served as Chair of the Advisory Committee to the
At the national level, Dr. Kowalski is past president of the and the . Prior to joining the Board of Trustees, he served the AOA in numerous capacities, including Vice Chair of the Bureau of State Government Affairs. In addition, he served as a member of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine’s Executive Committee of the Board of Deans.
Dr. Kowalski earned his osteopathic medical degree from the . He completed his transitional rotating internship, psychiatry residency and child psychiatry fellowship at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
