The Dr. John A. Cifala and Laura C. Cifala Memorial Osteopathic Medical Fund was established by the family to honor the memory of Dr. Cifala, founding Board Member of VCOM, and his wife, Laura.

John Skelton has been a longtime Blacksburg resident who recognizes the need for physicians in the region. The scholarship award gives preference to students whose hometown residence is in the Commonwealth of Virginia, who excel academically, have financial need, and plan to return to do primary care in the state of Virginia (internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, or OB/GYN).

The Julie W. Ghent Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Julie’s loving family and Mid-Carolina AHEC. This scholarship honors the memory of Julie W. Ghent who worked as the Student Coordinator for VCOM-Carolinas host site Springs Memorial Hospital. 

In recognition of Dr. Hendricks Carter's commitment to SWAGÊÓƵand her profession, the family and the College created a scholarship in her name.

The Mary Black Medical Staff Endowed Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that acknowledges the early support of both the physicians and staff at Mary Black Hospital, which is now a part of the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.

The Megan Cornwell Thomas, DO, and William Thomas, DO, Endowed Medical Scholarship was created by Gary and Laura Cornwell and Megan Cornwell Thomas, DO, and William Thomas, DO. Both Megan and William Thomas are graduates of VCOM, Class of 2007.

Established in 2021 by members of the New River Valley Health Foundation, the endowed scholarship recognizes the academic excellence and contributions of VCOM-Virginia students who grew up in the New River Valley area (Carroll, Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, Wythe Counties or the City of Radford).

The Niyati P. Sheth Scholarship for Excellence in Microbiology and Pharmacology was created by Niyati P. Sheth, DO, Class of 2007.

The Patricia A. Marden Women’s Health Award was established in 2012 by Dr. David Marden, in honor of his mother.

The Randall "R.J." Kirk Endowed Medical Scholarship, established by Mr. Kirk, seeks to recognize and reward SWAGÊÓƵmedical students who embody the values of osteopathic medicine and who graduated from a high school in southwest Virginia. 

The Ron Kindrick and Dean Willcox Global Outreach Scholarship Fund is named in memory of Ron Kindrick, late husband of Jan M. Willcox, DO, Virginia Campus Dean.

The Rural Access Fund for Psychiatry was established by Jason Grove, DO, who graduated from SWAGÊÓƵin 2007. The Scholarship helps deter costs of auditioning for a residency in psychiatry.

In memory of Samuel Zigrossi, a VCOM-Auburn Class of 2020 medical student who passed away in 2018, this scholarship honors Sam’s contributions to VCOM, including the support he gave to his classmates and his many contributions to the citizens and patients he served as an active student in VCOM’s local and international outreach programs.

The Science Foundation of West Virginia Endowed Scholarship promotes the profession of osteopathic physicians in the region of Bluefield, West Virginia. 

The Margaret and Jimmi Narong Palmieri Rural Health Scholarship Fund was established by the friends and family of Margaret and Jimmi Palmieri for first, second, and third year VCOM-Virginia students whose career plans are to practice medicine in towns with populations under 15,000 in rural Virginia or Appalachia.

The Scholarship is established to honor the memory of Per Yngve Brolinson, DO. It was instituted by his family, including his son, Per Gunnar Brolinson, DO, Vice Provost of Research and family medicine/sports medicine physician for the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and Virginia Tech, and Gunnar’s wife, Lesia Brolinson.

The Sower Scholarship, based on the Bible parable, was established by Drs. Frank and Jennifer Clark with the intention in assisting SWAGÊÓƵin maintaining and improving the education benefits that all students receive from a diverse study body. 

The United Company Foundation Endowed Scholarship was established in 2019 to benefit medical students who agree to practice medicine in Southwest Virginia. 

The Women in Global Health Travel Scholarship Fund is an annual gift initially created by SWAGÊÓƵCarolinas faculty and friends to provide an annual travel fund for deserving women.

The William B. and Ann F. Holtzman Endowed Medical Scholarship Fund was established by the donors for a second, third, or fourth year medical student in good academic standing at VCOM. Preference is given to a student who plans to do primary care (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics or OB-GYN) and is a student whose home residence is from an area where Holtzman Oil Corporation does business. Holtzman Corporation currently operates in many locations in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland.
