Community

Auburn is a public land-grant university with about 30,000 students set on 1,841 acres in the rolling hills of east central Alabama. The Auburn Tigers varsity sports teams are part of the NCAA Division I Southeastern Conference.Ìý

The largest city in eastern Alabama with a population of about 60,000, Auburn is a historic college town known as "the loveliest village on the plains" and has been listed as one of the best places to live in the United States by U.S. News and World Report.Ìý

The historic downtown area is home to many shops, restaurants, night spots, and businesses. The Tiger Trail, a walk of fame honoring notable Auburn University athletes, coaches, and administrators, lines the downtown sidewalks.

One of the city's most recognizable landmarks, this old-fashioned soda fountain and drugstore serves sandwiches and shakes and is the traditional epicenter of Auburn University's sports victory celebrations.Ìý

Outdoor Recreation

This 696-acre scenic state park offers many recreational activities including swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking on its 26-acre lake; hiking and mountain biking trails; and camping and picnicking facilities.Ìý

The largest golf course construction project ever undertaken, the RTJ golf trail includes 468 holes at 11 sites throughout the state. The Grand National site in the Auburn area has three 18-hole courses, two that were ranked among America's top 50 affordable courses byÌýGolf DigestÌýmagazine.

Arts and Culture

This visual and performing arts center hosts public classes and workshops, art exhibits, community theatre performances, art education programs, and special events.Ìý

The AACT is a non-profit community theater company that brings theater education programs and camps, participation opportunities for all ages, and public productions to the community each year.Ìý

Located on the Auburn University main campus, the museum has six galleries, an auditorium, and landscaped walking paths with outdoor sculptures. Its collection of 2,500 works ranges from traditional to contemporary and is seen by 30,000 visitors each year.

Auburn University's performing arts center presents touring productions of Broadway, opera, dance, chamber arts, popular music, and theater performances. It has a 1,202-seat theater; an amphitheater with space for 3,500; and space for outdoor events and community festivals.Ìý
