Morgan Square, in the Historic District of downtown Spartanburg, retains many of the historic features present over a century ago, including the original town clock and the 1881 Daniel Morgan monument, from which the square derives its name. The Square is a thriving location for shopping, dining, and nightlife.

Located 5 miles west of the VCOM-Carolinas campus, the WestGate Mall has over 100 stores, a movie theater and food court.

Outdoor Recreation

The Cottonwood Trail is a 115 acre urban preserve and trail system located minutes from downtown Spartanburg.

The Glendale Shoals Preserve consists of thirteen acres on Lawson’s Fork Creek. The property is scenic, with a waterfall that cascades over a dam, and has significant plant, animal and bird life. Activities at the Shoals include walking trails, picnic areas, canoeing, kayaking and historic/nature sightseeing.

Arts and Culture

The Spartanburg Art Museum (SAM) provides exhibits of national, regional, and local art as well as giving underserved youth the opportunity to experience high-quality art instruction.

The mission of the Chapman Cultural Center is to provide cultural leadership for Greater Spartanburg by developing, strengthening, and promoting the scope, excellence and educational role of the arts, humanities and sciences, and to further their significance in the life of our community and all of its citizens.
