SWAGÊÓƵ

SWAGÊÓƵprovides clinical instruction to its third and fourth-year medical students by partnering with community-based hospitals throughout Appalachia and beyond. Through exposure to rural and medically underserved areas, students receive significant hands-on clinical training where they also gain an appreciation for the many rewards of rural medicine.

Third-year students spend six of the nine months in community-based hospitals that hold 100 to 400 beds, and three months in affiliated practices where core primary care training is available. By working under the guidance of faculty physicians at these clinical sites, students are well-prepared for theÌýmore traditional academic health center and residency structure rotations of the fourth year.

Notice of Clinical Site Changes:

Hospital sites are subject to change based on the SWAGÊÓƵAdministration, student training needs, and/or administrative changes in hospitals. While the training sites are subject to change without notice to students, those students who are in clinical rotations at the time of the change will be accommodated for the duration of the rotation when possible. Rotation site changes will be updated to the class, choosing rotations annually.
